At Dwell I have edited, assigned and written for all sections of the magazine. At present I edit the features, long-form essays, travel, profile, and historical sections of the magazine. I’m a frequent contributor to dwell.com, managed the speakers at our annual Dwell on Design conference, and have lectured on architecture, design and the media at the Denver Art Museum, the Finnish Embassy in Washington DC, and Louisiana State University among other places.
The Pocket Square, San Francisco Chronicle, 2008-Present
For over a year and a half I’ve been the men’s style columnist for the San Francisco Chronicle. My column, The Pocket Square, ranges in content from San Francisco street fashion to wider national trends.

As a freelance writer I’ve written about trends in popular language for the New York Times Magazine and Wired Magazine; international fashion, architecture, and design for the travel magazines Afar and Outside’s GO; graphic design and books for Print Magazine; popular culture and books for the San Francisco Chronicle; and various subjects for Newsweek, the Washington City Paper, The Bold Italic, and for television at Animal Planet and the Discovery Channel.
On Language Column in the New York Times Magazine, 2005-2006
For a year and a half I worked as the researcher and reporter for Pulitzer Prize winning columnist William Safire’s On Language column in the New York Times Magazine. I did all the reporting and research for Safire’s beloved column chronicling trends and shifts in the popular and political lexicons conducting interviews with sources ranging from senators to baseball players. I’ve written the column twice when Safire was on vacation.
